A scholarship has been established in honor of Pamela Beth Klein, who taught French for 33 years, most of those at Inglewood High School. Its purpose is to aid students who are studying French in college and who demonstrate a financial need. Three scholarships of $3000 each will be awarded.
To apply for one of these scholarships, students must submit a 100-word (or longer) essay in French explaining why they need the scholarship and how they intend to pursue their studies in French. Essays may be submitted in hard copy to the USC Department of French and Italian, Taper Hall 155, before 4 PM on Friday the 10th of September, 2010.
Please include your name and contact information (including your
email address) with your essay. Scholarships will be awarded to the top three candidates at the end of February 2011.
Pamela Klein's many former students fondly remember her unwavering dedication to her work and to her students' welfare. Her students not only learned French, they also came to share her love of France and its culture; she also taught her students how to become mature adults. She passed away in 2009 and now rests in peace in her beloved Paris.
Brochures describing the scholarship are available at the front desk of the Department of French and Italian in Taper Hall 155. For questions, please contact the French & Italian Department at (213) 740-3700. Good luck!
