Volunteer Teaching Opportunity for Bilingual Students

Great volunteer teaching opportunity for any bilingual (Spanish-English) USC students in the Spanish Department.  Bryan Cullison from World Impact is developing an off-shoot of the I HABLO U adult dual language immersion program, and he is currently looking for an English Teacher and a Spanish Teacher.  Here are the details:

Volunteer Teachers Wanted

- We are interested in finding two bilingual teachers who would be willing to volunteer two hours a week in facilitating classes where Spanish-language learners and English-language learners gather for both conversation and interaction with one another for one hour, with the second hour being more directed language learning time separated by language.

Course Overview and Goals

- This course is designed to provide monolingual students with the basic fundamentals of a second language (English/Spanish).  It will focus on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.  Furthermore, the course will increase students awareness of Hispanic/American cultures.  Lessons will be conducted entirely in English/Spanish (alternating) in order to fully immerse students.

Logistical Details

- Course Length: 6 Weeks (March 28, 2011 – May 2, 2011)

- Course Schedule: Mondays, 6:00 – 8:00 PM

- Location: Loren Miller Recreation Center, 27th & Halldale, Los Angeles, CA 90018

Expectations for the Position:

- Bilingual or Near-Bilingual in Spanish and English

- Spanish/English Teaching Experience (preferred, but not required)

- Able to write weekly lesson plans and teach one night per week

- Reliable Transportation to Loren Miller Recreation Center (1 mile away from campus)

CIA at USC Career Fair

The Central Intelligence Agency is searching for intelligent and dedicated men and women from a variety of academic backgrounds to contribute to our National Security mission.  Recruiters will be conducting an Information Session to discuss the CIA mission, employment & internship opportunities and the employment/security clearance process.

All applicants must be US Citizens, willing to relocate to the Northern Virginia/DC area, and undergo an extensive security process.




Korean American Coalition (KAC) Internship

The Korean American Coalition (KAC) is a non-profit, non-partisan, community advocacy organization. Established in 1983, its mission is to facilitate Korean American participation in civic, legislative, and community affairs, encouraging the community to contribute to and become an integral part of American society.

Summer internship placement program

The Korean American Coalition's (KAC) Summer College Internship Program (SCIP) is designed to provide personal and professional development opportunities to highly qualified Korean American college students, and to encourage them to take on future leadership roles in the Korean American community. 
The program places participants in sponsor offices four days a week. Applicants will be able to rank their interest in four fields - Government/Political, Non-Profit, Corporate, and Media - and will be placed accordingly. Past internship placements have included positions at Samsung America, KTLA, FOX, KCBS, KNBC, an investment bank, Public Counsel Los Angeles, and the offices of Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Barbara Boxer, Congressman Xavier Becerra, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and State Controller John Chiang.
On the remaining day of the week SCIP participants will received community organizing and advocacy training at KAC. Interns will also lead a community-building project. Past projects have included community advocacy pertaining to the redistricting of Koreatown, the creation of a Los Angeles Riots archive and artifact collection, a conference on famine in North Korea, and several voter registration and education drives.

PROGRAM DETAILS:
- 8 weeks (June 20 - August 12), 40 hours per week- Potential internship placements, all Los Angeles County-based: Government/Political, Non-profit, Corporate, and Media- Transportation and housing costs are not subsidized by the Program- All applicants must be enrolled in a four-year college or university

At this time we are also looking for students to intern with us in the spring. The listing for our spring internship program is as follows:

KAC accepts high school and college interns for the Fall (September to January) and Spring (February to June) and Summer (July to September) cycles. Interns have worked on a variety of projects for KAC, including the planning of our THINK (Topple Hunger in North Korea) Conference, our annual 4.29 Commemoration Event, and a social networking outreach and implementation plan. KAC staffers have also tailored individual projects to the intern's interests.

We request that all students agree to an 80-hour total commitment prior to beginning their internships.

Experience at KAC will give interns broad insight into the political process, the dynamics of the Korean American community, and community organizing experience on a wide range of topics, from green space to North Korean human rights issues. Interns also often gain direct legislative advocacy experience, on the city, county, state, or federal levels.

We're currently seeking interns in these areas:

Community Advocacy
Interns will research, coordinate, and write reports concerning our various community advocacy initiatives. Avocacy priorities include redistricting, as well as voter registration and voter participation.

Development
Interns will assist the Development Director in coordinating fundraising and membership events and activities.

The 4.29 Project
The 4.29 Project is our bid to correct media coverage imbalances during the 1992 L.A. Riots by translating Korean-language media articles of the uprising. Korean-to-English translation skills would be helpful but not required.

Asia Pacific Arts Internship

Interested in Asian and Asian American arts and entertainment?

Asia Pacific Arts is currently looking for interns for the Spring 2011 semester. An online magazine published by the USC US-China Institute in cooperation with the East Asian Studies Center and the Annenberg School of Communication, Asia Pacific Arts covers everything from film, music, and theater to TV dramas, manga, and video games. Writers, videographers, translators,and publicists needed.

This USC Discovery Scholars Program recognizes graduating seniors who excel in the classroom and display the ability to create exceptional new scholarship and artistic works. The Global Scholars Program recognizes graduating seniors who excel in their studies at home and abroad.

Students are able to compete for the recognition at graduation and may be considered for a $10,000 prize towards graduate study.

US-China Today - Journalism, Marketing, and Online Media Internships

Are you looking for work experience in writing, journalism, marketing, or online media? Are you interested in China and/or international relations? US-China Today (uschina.usc.edu) is seeking new staff writers and interns for the Spring 2011 semester! We are a student-driven publication of the USC U.S.-China Institute. The magazine focuses on the multidimensional and evolving U.S.-China relationship and on significant trends in contemporary China. Internships and staff writer positions provide students with valuable research, writing, journalism, web development, video editing, public relations and/or marketing experience.

Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership Announces Summer 2011 Applications for Public Service Internships and Scholarships

The Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL) will help place students in paid internships within federal government agencies in DC, California, Oregon, Washington, as well as other locations nationwide.  Most internships will be in DC and last year, 11 interns were placed.  CAPAL will also be offering two $2,000 scholarships for individuals working in unpaid public service internships (nonprofit/government) this summer in Washington, DC.  Please go to capal.org for more information and to apply, and access the applications via these links:  internships application; scholarships application.
